Testing
I conduct both quick dyslexia screenings and educational assessments for dyslexia and/or dyscalculia using a variety of tools and surveys.
*This is not a full neuropsych evaluation, but an educational assessment specifically for dyslexia, which can guide your teaching methods, styles, and curriculum choices, as well as inform needed accommodations on a 504 plan.
The Process
The first step in a dyslexia or dyscalculia evaluation includes the parent filling out two forms with background information about the student's medical and academic histories as well as symptoms of a learning disability. We'll set up a time to talk on the phone for about an hour to go over your responses and determine if a dyslexia assessment is the proper next step.
We'll set up a time for me to do some more in-depth assessment activities with the student, in which we evlautate phonemic awareness, both oral and silent reading fluency and accuracy, rapid naming skills, spelling skills, and silent reading comprehension. This testing sessions lasts about 90-120 minutes. I'll also need copies of the student's school records, including report cards and standardized test scores, and 2-4 unedited writing samples so I can analyze spelling, handwriting, grammar, and general writing skills.
After I score and review all of the school records, writing samples, and testing results, I meet with the parents for about an hour. We discuss all of the results, your child's strengths and weaknesses, what kind of tutoring and/or accommodations will be most beneficial for your student to become a confident, independent reader!
After the assessment process is complete, I remain available for consultation for as long as needed. I'm available to help advocate for your student in their school's IEP or 504 meetings. I can help you choose appropriate curriculum, therapies, or further testing for your student. I'm here to support you and your child on this journey!
Step 1
Contact me via the contact form, phone, or email. Within 48 hours I'll reach out to you for a quick phone call when we determine if this type of dyslexia/dyscalculia assessment is appropriate for your student.
Step 2
The parent will fill out some surveys and screeners and have a 60-minute phone call with me to discuss the answers. We'll make sure that a dyslexia assessment is the appropriate next step for your child.
Step 3
I'll meet with the student for about 90 - 120 minutes in which I conduct a battery of assessments. About 2 weeks later I'll meet with the parent(s) in person or via phone or Zoom to go over the full results!
