Who We Are
Angela Carter
Founder, Director, Tutor
After several years as an elementary/special ed. teacher in traditional schools, I homeschooled my own children through 8th grade, an experience that brought both joy and a passion for individualized education. During that time, I also worked as a teacher and curriculum librarian for two homeschool enrichment programs in the Longmont area. It was through one of these programs that I found the Barton Reading & Spelling System, and began using it with my first student.
I went on to complete an intensive Orton-Gillingham certification program, and continue to pursue advanced coursework, so I can more effectively reach more students who struggle with literacy.
Helping each learner find their way is not only my mission—it’s the most fulfilling part of what I do.
Meridith Criswell
Reading Tutor
Meridith is originally from New Jersey, but settled in Colorado in 2005 after receiving her BA in Communication from Boston College and her elementary teaching license from California State University Los Angeles. Meridith also has a Master of Science degree in Teaching and Learning through Colorado State University. She has taught since 2003 in many different settings, from public school to private tutoring, and has been teaching Elementary Language Arts at APEX Homeschool Program since 2011. When not teaching, Meridith enjoys homeschooling her own children, gardening, fostering rescue puppies, and of course, reading!
